Egypt Denies Election Intervention
Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Suleiman Awad denied his country is intervening in Lebanon”s parliamentary elections.
"Intervention in the Lebanese elections in not on Egypt”s agenda, this is not Egypt”s policy and this is not the policy of president Hosni Mubarak," the presidential spokesman said.
He was responding to accusations made by Hizbullah against certain Arab regimes that are working on influencing the outcome of the legislative elections.
He expressed hope that Lebanon would hold free and honest elections according to the Lebanese” aspirations "Because Egypt shall continue to remain the big sister that cares for Lebanon”s security, stability, popular and political harmony among all."
Awad was asked to comment on the issue of the recently uncovered Hizbullah cell in Egypt.
"President Hosni Mubarak has affirmed that the case against the Hizbullah cell is in the hands of the judiciary. This case has legal ramifications subject to the full independence the Egyptian bench," Awad said.
