Head of Arab League Elections Mission in Beirut Thursday
The head of the Arab League mission to monitor the elections will arrive in Beirut on Thursday, the organization said Wednesday in a statement.
Assistant secretary-general Mohammed Khamlichi has already met with Lebanese officials in Beirut last month to finalize the mission”s duties, the Kuwaiti News Agency reported. Khamlichi is also director of the League”s media and communication affairs.
The Lebanese government has requested the Arab League to oversee the elections alongside international observer delegations.
The Arab League observers have participated in similar missions in Arab and non-Arab countries including in Tunisia, Iraq, Chechnya, Djibouti and Belarus.
