No Hizbullah Disarmament so Long as There Is a “Problem” with Israel
MP Michel Aoun told a rally in Zahle Friday that Hizbullah will not be disarmed as long as Lebanon is under threat from Israel.
"Hizbullah”s weapons were born in the south and will remain in the south. (Hizbullah will be disarmed) when the problem with Israel comes to an end," he said via telephone from Rabieh.
"The weapons are here to defend Lebanon and not to impose the Wilayat al-Faqih rule," he added.
Aoun cautioned voters against giving in to "those who are trying to make you fear the weapons of Hizbullah."
"Those who are complaining from Hizbullah”s weapons should tell us what the solution is," Aoun said, criticizing those who "rejected a memorandum of understanding without even reading it."
"We supported a policy of understanding. Why were they not afraid of Hizbullah during the 2005 quartet alliance? Then we are the target in this war not Hizbullah," he concluded.
He criticized statements describing Zahle as "the city of Hariri" saying that "Zahle will remain a model and will not be a follower for anyone."
