We Will Respect Elections Results
MP Saad Hariri pledged Friday to respect the outcome of the elections voicing hope his political opponents will do the same, during a rally at the BIEL center to conclude al-Mustaqbal movement”s electoral campaign.
"Democracy cannot be set straight without our full respect of the voters” decision. All we hope for is that our opponents also respect the decision of Lebanese men and women in order for our democracy not to be deficient," Hariri told supports.
He described the choice of voters as the "first and foremost scale for all the pledges they heard and slogans they read."
Voicing respect to all parties and candidates, Hariri said: "Electoral competition expresses the essence of our democratic system. Our respect of opponents and allies alike is our decision in al-Mustaqbal movement and emanates from our adherence to democracy in full."
Hariri”s speech also conveyed a message of unity by rejecting "attempts by some to divide the Lebanese" insisting that "what the Lebanese share was greater than all the slogans and colors."
"What we have in common rises above sects and regions. It is our love for Lebanon," he added.
Addressing female and male voters, he advised them not to cast their ballots "out of fear … or ignorance … or because you were made to believe that what is in store is even worse."
"But (because) we can choose. This is in itself a decision that we raise in the face of those who want to prevent us from imagining that we can coexist without crises and be respectful of one another and to the laws, in a country that abides by the constitution, under the leadership of a wise president."
Hariri said Lebanon is 36 hours away from the elections. He told voters to use the time left to "say that we choose hope … and to forbid anyone from overthrowing the constitution, the sovereign and independent republic and our free economic system."
