One-Day Elections Are Achievement by Baroud
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea congratulated Interior Minister Ziad Baroud for holding one-day elections dubbing them as an "achievement."
In a statement, he praised the "highly advanced" preparations that required "tremendous efforts" by the interior ministry.
Geagea, who cast his vote for the first time in his life, applauded the Lebanese on the "manifestation of democracy across Lebanon."
The elections day "shows Lebanon”s real identity, which is a unique experience. Its preservation is a collective responsibility that all teams must be aware off," he added.
On the outcome of the elections, Geagea said: "They are better than we expected."
He stressed that the results "must be respected because they reflect the will of the people."
Geagea questioned the "reason behind a call by March 8 on supporters to vote between 7am till 11am."
He also described as "unfortunate violations taking place in Ashrafiyeh."
Reacting to Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir”s statement Saturday, he said: "It is a cry from the heart and conscience that placed everyone, especially the Christians, face to face with their responsibilities. The patriarch did what he had to do with regards to warning against (looming) dangers."
