Hariri Says Netanyahu”s “Road Map” Shatters Peace Efforts, Endangers Region
MP Saad Hariri denounced on Tuesday the Israeli premier”s policy speech as a "road map" for overthrowing peace efforts and urged "the highest levels" of Lebanese and Arab solidarity to confront regional challenges.
PM Benjamin "Netanyahu”s speech places the region once again in the whirlpool of escalation and outlines an Israeli road map for toppling settlement efforts and peace initiatives," Hariri said in a statement.
He said Israel was attempting to destabilize Lebanon and breach its sovereignty.
In order to confront the Israeli threats, Hariri said "we, in Lebanon, carry a huge responsibility to consolidate solidarity and commit to obligations for the higher national interest."
Netanyahu on Sunday endorsed for the first time the creation of a Palestinian state, provided it was demilitarized and that it recognizes Israel as a state for the Jewish people.
Hariri said Netanyahu took peace efforts back to "point zero" after he set conditions that impact the vital questions of the Palestinian right of return and the fate of Jerusalem.
"These are all headlines that topple the Arab initiatives, seriously endanger regional peace and open the region to new possibilities. All this requires the highest levels of coordination among Arab leaderships," he added.
