Berri Is Our Candidate; We Want Relativity Principle in Cabinet
MP Michel Aoun reaffirmed Wednesday his support for the reelection of Nabih Berri as parliament speaker and repeated the opposition”s demands for representation based on relativity in the new government.
"Speaker Nabih Berri is the opposition”s candidate for parliament presidency and we will surely support him," Aoun told reporters following the weekly meeting of his Change and Reform bloc.
On the future cabinet, Aoun said the opposition was "not asking for one-third majority. If we want to be part of a unity government we will adopt relativity as the rule of representation."
Aoun said it was "too early" for the opposition to announce its candidate for prime minister. "We have yet to review his platform," he added.
On Hizbullah”s weapons arsenal, Aoun criticized his political opponents for making the Christian community "spearhead a fight" against the party”s armament during the elections.
"Now that the elections are over, Hizbullah”s arms arsenal has been set aside," he added.
He said he was pleased with MP Saad Hariri”s agreement with Hizbullah.
"The future of Hizbullah”s weapons arsenal is no longer a point of disagreement (with Hariri) and we will get the opportunity to discuss other areas" of conflict, he added.
Aoun also slammed "the media campaigns of lies during the elections."
The lies, he said, were constructed on reports that "we want to enforce Wilayat al-Faqih, (the Iranian revolution and the Syrian army are crawling into Lebanon and that we want to impose the chador."
He described "foreign interference as a political crime."
Aoun said he was aware that "unfavorable" measures were being prepared for the future "while they distract us with the questions of parliament presidency and premiership."
