French-Qatari talks focus on Lebanon
French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Eric Chevalier said on Friday that Lebanon would be "at the core" of discussions held in Paris on Monday between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Thani, who will conduct an official visit to the French capital, will discuss the situation in Lebanon in light of the results of the parliamentary elections which were held earlier this month.
Chevalier, quoted by the Central News Agency (CNA), said that discussions would tackle, in addition to bilateral relations, recent developments in the region, in particular the situation in the country and the "policy of openness" adopted by both March 14 and opposition forces. Chevalier added, however, that the two heads of state "have no intention to interfere in Lebanese domestic affairs or in the formation of the new government."
