Bkirki is Symbol of National and Christian Conscience
Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan said on Sunday that Bkirki is the symbol of the national and Christian conscience and that positions made by Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir should be contemplated, especially ones regarding the present and future of the country.
Adwan spoke after visiting Sfeir, saying that Bkirki is pioneering efforts to maintain the stability, freedom and security of Lebanon.
He said that the guiding principles for choosing a new speaker of the parliament and forming a new cabinet are insuring stability and partnership without obstruction. “I am against the obstructing third vote today more than ever, but it is necessary to have a national partnership. Thus the minority has to be part of the government, but without the third vote,” he said.
Adwan also said that there is no need to have an alternative candidate to speaker Nabih Berri, adding that the only thing the LF wants is the implementation of the constitution.
Adwan said that the idea of proportional representation in the cabinet is unconstitutional, adding that talk of a popular majority is a challenge to the Taif accord and coexistence and equal sharing between Muslims and Christians.
