“I do not understand the obstructing third vote, as we are used to having a party that rules and another that opposes,” Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir said in an interview with Al-Quds Al-Arabiya newspaper published on Sunday.

“I do not intervene in nominations for the speaker, since only the MPs can decide this issue and they will choose the best candidate,” Sfeir argued.

Regarding Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri’s possible nomination for the position of prime minister, Sfeir said he will support whoever MPs support for the position. “Hariri is known for his moderation and for best serving his country,” he said.

Sfeir said that Lebanon cannot handle the naturalization of the Palestinians due to its small size.
