Closing Parliament a Major Contravention
“We will not set any condition on Speaker Nabih Berri’s re-election, however, we have to discuss some issues with him, since closing the parliament was a grave transgression and should not be repeated,” Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea told the Saudi Okaz newspaper on Tuesday.
Geagea added that he respected Berri, whom he said proved his ability to maintain self-discipline away from violence during the most difficult situations over the past four years.
The LF leader emphasized the necessity of forming a national unity government, but without granting the opposition the obstructing third vote, saying it is “unacceptable.”
“Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun wants to be represented in the next cabinet on the basis of proportionality, but such a proposal does not exist in the constitution or any other law,” Geagea said.
