Gemayel Says No Use of Cabinet that Doesn”t Safeguard Taef, Urges Hariri to be Steadfast
Phalange leader Amin Gemayel said Monday that there is no use in having a government that does not maintain and safeguard national foundations, the Cedar revolution and the Taef accord.
Gemayel also said in a press conference that his party wants "a government that regains the state”s authority and restricts arms in the hands of legitimate" Lebanese authorities.
The Phalange leader announced support for Premier-designate Saad Hariri, urging him to "to be steadfast."
"Don”t fear obstacles and impossible conditions as well as the direct messages that continue to move from one area to another," he said.
"If the Aisha Bakkar message is similar to that of May 7, 2008, (let me say that) Lebanon triumphed at the time. The Lebanese are with you (Hariri) and this government shall achieve our hope," Gemayel said.
The Doha agreement ended on the eve of the elections, he said, adding "all issues are now back to their original form and there is no need to follow vague formulas from now on."
Gemayel hoped the new cabinet would be formed "as soon as possible" in order "to face all regional and international challenges."
