Berri Calls for Serious, Transparent Probe into Aisha Bakkar Shooting
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday called for a "serious and transparent" probe into the Aisha Bakkar clashes that left one woman killed and six other people wounded.
"Amal Movement was surprised at the shooting and the death of innocent Zeina Miri and the rest of the wounded," Berri said.
"It is unacceptable to say that this act was a violation of Beirut and all its citizens. What is true is that others fire at random in all directions and let their sectarianism destroy their country," he added.
Berri stressed during evening talks with army commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji on the need to pursue stringent measures in the wake of the Aisha Bakkar fighting.
He called for a "serious and transparent probe" into the incident and urged that armed men or violators be stripped of the political cover they were depending on to protect them.
