Assad Meets Jamil Sayyed, Discusses International Tribunal
In the first such move by a freed Lebanese army officer, Gen. Jamil Sayyed visited Damascus on Tuesday and met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The daily Al-Akhbar on Wednesday, which carried the report, said the two men discussed various political issues as well as the Special Tribunal for Lebanon set up to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of former-Premier Rafik Hariri.
It said, however, that talks focused on the latest developments in the Hariri probe and the investigation by a U.N. commission with him.
