12 Fatah al-Islam members sentenced to life in prison
Twelve men belonging to an Al-Qaeda-inspired Islamist group were sentenced late Wednesday to up to life in prison for terrorism, a Lebanese court official said Thursday.
The Associated Press quoted an unidentified military court official as saying the men had been found guilty of carrying out bomb attacks in north Lebanon and against UNIFIL peacekeepers in the south, establishing an armed group and weakening state authority.
The men, many of whom are Palestinians, are members of Fatah al-Islam, a group which was engaged in a three-month battle with the Lebanese Armed Forces in 2007.
