No Way to Accept Veto Power

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said there is "no way to form a government that grants veto power to the Opposition."

"It is not true that government is being formed overseas," Geagea said in a Tuesday evening interview with MTV.

"The problem lies within Hizbullah and its allies who have once again returned to the tune of veto power," he stressed.

Geagea believed the best thing is to have "all parliamentary blocs inside the Cabinet."

"However, we cannot accept veto power and that is why we, as Lebanese Forces, ask “Why did we hold parliamentary elections in the country?”"

"We were promised that we would have MPs from other regions and I was betrayed by some individuals, but I won”t mention any names," he said.

The June 7 parliamentary elections "showed that the majority of the Christians support our political convictions."

Geagea believed that a much-talked-about visit by PM-designate Saad Hariri to Syria before Cabinet formation would be a "major mistake."

He said government formation "opens wide the door" to an inter-Arab reconciliation, particularly between Syria and Saudi Arabia.
