Cabinet Formation Facing Obstacles
In an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Thursday, Coordinator of the March 14 General Secretariat Fares Soueid expressed pessimism on the new cabinet formation, saying that the stances of several Arab states have changed, a reference to the recent Saudi-Syrian rapprochement, and “some parties are trying to obstruct the formation of the new government.”
Soueid also said that opposition parties are “confused, since each party has proposed a different cabinet formula,” a reference to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s demand to base the new cabinet on proportionality and Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh’s call for granting the opposition the obstructing-third vote within the new government.
