Security Forces Arrest Alleged Israel Spy
Security forces arrested on Saturday a Lebanese man in the Bekaa valley on suspicion of spying for Israel, Voice of Lebanon radio station reported.
VDL said that police raided the home of Kamal Assaf and took him over for investigation. It added that the man is a member of the Syrian Social National Party. However, the SSNP later issued a statement denying Assaf was a party activist.
On Wednesday, Military Examining Magistrate Rashid Mizher formally charged and demanded life in prison for Marwan Kamel Faqih, a car dealer who passed information about Hizbullah to Israel.
Lebanese authorities have made dozens of arrests in recent months and filed preliminary charges but this has been the first formal indictment since a crackdown began earlier this year against those accused of collaborating with Israel.
