Phalange, SSNP at Loggerheads Over “Strife” Allegations

The Phalange party and the Syrian Social National Party are at loggerheads over claims that SSNP supporters chanted slogans against the Phalange and its leaders near the home of the Gemayel family in Bikfaya.

The Phalange said in a statement Sunday that an SSNP convoy of buses and cars intentionally took the road near former President Amin Gemayel”s home and the passengers chanted the slogans, which were an "instigation against murder."

The incident, according to the Phalange, took place when delegations were visiting Gemayel and his son Sami at the family home.

The statement accused the SSNP of "deliberately trying to ignite strife in the Metn region" and said the incident came at a time when security forces have informed MP Sami Gemayel about death threats.

The SSNP, however, denied in a statement on Monday that its supporters stopped in front of the Gemayel residence and chanted anti-Phalange slogans, saying the convoy took the main Bikfaya road.
