Meditation between Aoun and Jumblat Resumes, Phalange-Marada Reconciliation Expands
Efforts have reportedly resumed to bring together Free Patriotic Movement leader Gen. Michel Aoun and Progressive Socialist Party chief Walid Jumblat.
An Nahar daily said Monday that the first round of efforts for talks between the two MPs faced the obstacles of the meeting”s location and agenda. But mediators are now trying to bring both parties” views closer in behind-the-scenes attempts to set up a meeting between Aoun and Jumblat.
At the Christian-Christian front, the Phalange party and Marada movement are also reportedly trying to advance reconciliation moves to another stage.
An Nahar said that the two sides are planning for a second meeting after MP Sami Gemayel held talks with Marada leader Suleiman Franjieh in Bnashii earlier this month.
Among the ideas for a second meeting is an invitation from Gemayel to Franjieh for lunch. Present will be former President Amin Gemayel and MP Nadim Gemayel and their families.
"Another possibility is holding a mass to pray on the soul of both families” martyrs. However, a final decision hasn”t been made yet," according to An Nahar.
Caretaker Tourism Minister Elie Marouni confirmed to Voice of Lebanon radio on Monday that a second meeting will take place between the two sides.
