Sfeir Criticizes Anew Opposition Participation in Government
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Thursday once again criticized the Opposition”s participation in the government, reiterating the old slogan that the state is like a "carriage being pulled by two horses, one forward and another backward."
Sfeir”s comments came after a spiritual summit held between the Maronite Patriarch and Greek Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius IV Hazim in the Monastery of “Our Lady of Balamand.”
"This is why the state is not holding together," Sfeir would say.
Information Minister in the caretaker government Tarek Mitri attended the meeting in addition to Bishops Elias Kfouri, Elias Audi, Roland Abu Jawde, Bassilious Mansour, Samir Mazloum, Shukrallah al-Hajj and Francis al-Baisari.
Hazim, for his part, called on the various political leaders to "contribute to building a strong state."
He criticized any "obstacles put in the way of (making progress) in the life of the Lebanese."
