Report: Franjieh in Al-Deeman before August 15
MP Suleiman Franjieh is expected to visit Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir before August 15 at the patriarchy”s summer headquarters in al-Deeman, the Markaziyya news agency reported Monday.
"The visit, expected before August 15, aims to firmly establish the climate of rapprochement and reconciliation with the Maronite sect”s spiritual guide," sources close to the Marada Movement told the agency.
The anticipated encounter follows a period of "strained relations" between Franjieh and Sfeir, the sources said. The two leaders will try to "lay the foundations of a new phase under the banner of respect and commitment to the Maronite Church”s principles," they added according to al-Markaziyya.
On Marada”s share in the government, the sources said Franjieh was inclined to "nominate Greek Orthodox attorney Sulaimah al-Rassi – the sister of former MP Karim al-Rassi – after the president called on all sides to include female ministers in the cabinet."
