Fatah Islam Fugitive Not a Dangerous Man
Police Chief Gen. Ashraf Rifi said Lebanese intelligence is involved in the massive manhunt for a Fatah al-Islam fugitive who managed to escape Roumieh prison on Tuesday.
Rifi, in remarks published by the daily As-Safir on Wednesday, said the fugitive who was identified as Taha Ahmad Haji Suleiman was not a "dangerous" man.
Rifi, however, said it was unlikely that Suleiman — who has dual Syrian and Palestinian nationality – was still hiding in the woods surrounding the prison headquarters.
He said policemen in coordination with Lebanese intelligence were involved in the manhunt for Suleiman.
Rifi cited "negligence" on the part of the security unit responsible for Roumieh prison that led to the escape attempt.
