Najjar Cautions “Barouk Station Issue Will Not Pass”

In an interview with LBC television on Thursday, Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar commented on the Barouk internet station, which reportedly has ties with Israel, saying that it is “shameful” to accuse the Justice Ministry of not shouldering its responsibilities, while being aware of the station’s ties to Israel.

State Prosecutor “Judge Said Mirza told me that [Telecommunications] Minister Gebran Bassil informed him only two days ago that the Barouk station is linked to Israel,” Najjar said, adding that the judge had not received any information on the station’s alleged Israeli ties prior to August 18.

Najjar also said that when Mirza asked Bassil why he refrained from raising the issue earlier, Bassil’s reply was “I did not want to make a fuss about it.”

“I assure [Free Patriotic Movement leader MP] Michel Aoun and Minister Bassil that we won’t let this pass,” Najjar said.

Najjar also touched on the issue of illegal phone calls, saying that it falls within the responsibilities of the Telecom Ministry rather than the Justice Ministry and stressing that it has always followed up all complaints addressed to it.
