Destruction of Hashish Plantations Politically and Military Supported
Police chief Ashraf Rifi described Tuesday an ongoing operation to destroy Hashish as an additional success to be added " to the list of achievements by the military and security forces," and said that drug trade was as dangerous as terrorism or Israeli espionage networks.
During his visit to the plain of Aya”at in Northern Bekaa, General Rifi stated that the "security operation" will continue till mid September and "has acquired the full political and military backing from the top of the hierarchy to all concerned."
He indicated that the close supervision of the operation was being implemented "according to the President Michel Suleiman”s directives and his personal follow-up as well as that of the interior ministry and the Lebanese Army Command."
While Rifi confirmed that a "third of the Hashish plantations have been destroyed." He said the campaign "will continue until the remaining quantities have been eradicated."
He pointed that the Hashish plantations in 2009 "are fewer compared to previous years due to the strict security measures undertaken by the Lebanese authority."
