Fadlallah Snaps Back at Sfeir, Stresses on Popular Majority
Lebanon”s top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah has slammed Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir who has been calling for a cabinet based on the outcome of the parliamentary polls.
"Why do you restrict the issue to the parliamentary majority?" Fadlallah wondered during an Iftar in a clear reference to Sfeir”s demands. "We call for a popular majority and popular referendum … so that people would have their say."
Sfeir has said that the government should be made up of the parliamentary majority while the opposition should remain outside the cabinet.
Fadlallah also said during the Iftar that Lebanon”s glory has been given to the struggling and resistant people.
