ISF detains Lebanese citizen on espionage charges
The Internal Security Forces Bureau for Combating Terrorism and Crime detained a Lebanese citizen for espionage charges, a security report said on Sunday. The man, identified as Hussein al-Asmar, 40, is a resident of the southern village of Odaisseh.
The report said that Asmar was a member of the South Lebanon Army (SLA) during the Israeli occupation of south Lebanon. The report said the man worked as the bodyguard of senior SLA official Robin Lahoud, who fled to Israel following the Israeli forces’ withdrawal in 2000.
Asmar was imprisoned in Roumieh jail in 2001 for six months for collaborating with Israel and then returned to his village where he worked as a guard.
