Baroud pledges to improve prison conditions
Prison conditions topped the agenda of Wednesday’s meeting of the Central Internal Security Council, headed by Interior Minister Ziyad Baroud at his ministry. The meeting tackled the issue of overcrowded prisons and agreed upon a series of measures to be taken in collaboration with the Justice Ministry and the judiciary. The measures included resolving the issue of almost 800 foreign prisoners held at the Roumieh central prison and called on general prosecutors to multiply their visits to Lebanese prisons.
The council was also updated on the security situation in refugee camps and sensitive spots such as the northern coastal city of Tripoli and stressed the need to put an end to the problem of car theft.
The anti-drug operation launched by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) earlier this month was also discussed.
Minister Baroud in turn asked council members to multiply their efforts to find missing Lebanese citizen Youssef Sader and reveal his fate.
He also briefed them on the security measures to be adopted during the Francophone Games that will kick off on September 27.
