Mufti Sheikh Jouzou calls Aoun national hate figure
Mount Lebanon Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Ali Jouzou lashed out at Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Michel Aoun on Sunday, describing him as “an enemy of the Maronite church, President Michel Sleiman, the media and the Sunni community in Lebanon.”
A statement issued by the FPM on Sunday urged Jouzou to apologize and warned him “to put an end to his sectarian attacks or else he will be taken to courts.” “Aoun is hostile to himself if he doesn’t find someone to antagonize,” Jouzou’s statement said.
The cleric accused Aoun of blackmail and of trying to torpedo the formation of a national unity government “by any means possible.”
“He [Aoun] wants to impose his son-in-law and relatives on the cabinet and sacrifice the nation for the sake of his family,” Jouzou added, in reference to Aoun’s son-in-law caretaker Telecommunications Minister Gebran Bassil, whom the FPM insists be reappointed for a second term.
