March 14 General-Secretariat Visits Hariri in Show of Support, Keeps Meetings Open-Ended

March 14 general-secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid defended PM-designate Saad Hariri on Wednesday and wondered why the opposition was trying to "obstruct" cabinet formation despite the Mustaqbal movement leader”s "generosity."

"We never understood why the other team continues to obstruct the government formation despite all this generosity on behalf of the Premier-designate," Soaid said following a visit by general-secretariat members to Hariri in Qoreitem.

He told reporters that Hariri "had given the other team, which is a minority that lost the elections, several services portfolios." However, according to Soaid, the opposition continued to be "obstinate."

Asked if he thought foreign intervention was preventing government formation, Soaid said: "There is a regional hindrance that the March 8 team is trying to Lebanonize."

Meanwhile, the March 14 general-secretariat decided to keep its meetings open-ended following the crisis triggered by the opposition”s rejection of Hariri”s cabinet lineup.

"Due to the quick development of events, the general-secretariat will leave its meetings open-ended," Soaid said following the general-secretariat meeting that lasted two hours.
