Sayyed calls for presidential control of key ministries
Former head of General Security, General Jamil al- Sayyed said Wednesday the Defense, Interior and Justice ministries should be exclusively allotted to the president, so that impartial candidates are nominated for the posts.
“The Lebanese people’s interests and welfare are connected to these three ministries thus they should not be allotted to biased figures,” a statement by Sayyed’s press office said.
Sayyed once again lashed out at Premier-designate Saad Hariri, claiming he had lost all rights to demand control of the Justice Ministry under the pretext of ongoing investigations into the assassination of his father, former Premier Rafik Hariri. Sayyed voiced hope that President Michel Sleiman “[would rescue] the Justice Ministry from political bickering.”
