Solange Gemayel Vows to Resist those Seeking to Drag Lebanon into Crisis
On the 27th anniversary of President-elect Bashir Gemayel”s assassination, her widow vowed not to let anyone drag Lebanon into a new crisis and bring back the era of hegemony.
"We reject dragging Lebanon into a new crisis that takes it backwards and brings back malicious foreign hands to tamper with it anew," Solange Gemayel told a crowd following a mass held at the Miracle Icon Cathedral in Ashrafiyeh.
She also accused the opposition of obstructing the building of the state, saying "its slogan is the right to force and ours is the force of right."
"The other team is deliberately obstructing the building of the state to prevent it from extending its sovereignty and freedom on all its territories," she said as the crowd waving Phalange and Lebanese Forces flags chanted pro-Bashir slogans.
Solange Gemayel sat at the front row of the memorial service for her husband, who perished with 22 associates in a 1982 bomb blast in Ashrafiyeh just 20 days after his election for Lebanon”s presidency and only two weeks before his swearing-in ceremony.
Mrs. Gemayel was flanked by her son MP Nadim, daughter Yumna, and her husband”s elder brother, ex-President Amin Gemayel, his wife and son MP Sami.
Several other officials, party leaders and dignitaries attended the mass.
