Lebanon First Renames Hariri, Says his Previous Efforts Hit Opposition”s Snag
Lebanon First bloc said Monday that it would rename al-Mustaqbal movement leader Saad Hariri for the PM”s post and slammed the opposition for "hindering the democratic process" of cabinet formation.
The bloc decided to "name MP Saad Hariri for the formation of the new government during consultations with President Michel Suleiman," MP Oqab Saqr said following a meeting.
The statement hailed Hariri for his strong "efforts to form a national coalition government that was unfortunately confronted with a list of demands that hindered the democratic process."
Last Thursday, Hariri stepped down as PM-designate, citing obstacles by the opposition. Suleiman will now hold a new round of consultations with parliamentary blocs on Tuesday and Wednesday to name a new premier.
