Israels open fire on fishing boat in Lebanese waters
The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) on Wednesday said the Israeli Army had shot at a fishing boat operating within Lebanese waters. Israeli gunners opened fire at 9:10 p.m. and 9:37 p.m. on Tuesday from their military position in Naqqoura, the LAF said in a statement.
The shootings constitute violations of Lebanese sovereignty and breach UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended Israel’s 34-day war on Lebanon in the summer of 2006. Also on Monday, the National News Agency reported the presence of Israeli warplanes in several regions of Lebanon, including Marjayoun, Western Bekaa, Jezzine and Hasbaya.
The incidents come after two rockets were launched into Israel from Southern Lebanon on Friday, prompting Tel Aviv to shell the area.
