Jumblat for Bringing to Trial Fatah al-Islam Militants, Says Hariri Keen on National Interest
Jumblat on Thursday called for unity in fighting extremism and terrorism and said Fatah al-Islam members should be brought to trial to discern between the innocent and the guilty.
"We have to unite in fighting extremism and terrorism. We should also bring to trial those involved in the Nahr al-Bared fighting to see who is innocent and who”s not," Jumblat said following his bloc”s meeting with Hariri as part of parliamentary consultations.
The Druze leader also lauded Syrian President Bashar Assad”s visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday to participate in the opening of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
"There is no doubt that Assad”s decision to go to Jeddah was a big political event. It stressed the importance of contacts between Saudi Arabia and Syria … which in turn consolidates the Taef accord and reflects positively on Lebanon," the PSP leader told reporters in parliament.
On Hariri”s efforts to form a cabinet, Jumblat said: "Hariri is keen on national interest and unity."
