Erdogan Stresses Lebanon”s Importance in Regional Stability
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the U.N. General Assembly that Lebanon is very important for the stability of the Middle East.
Lebanon "is of critical importance for regional stability. Turkey expended intensive efforts to ensure that a comprehensive political compromise prevails in Lebanon," said Erdogan during a speech on Thursday.
"We will continue to support strongly Lebanon”s stability," he said.
Turning to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Erdogan said: "We believe that resumption of the Israeli-Palestinian talks that have been disrupted by the Gaza conflict is of utmost importance and hope that the peace process will be revitalized as quickly as possible."
The Turkish premier also said that Syria is in a position to play a key role in regional peace.
