We Support Coalition Cabinet, however we will Not Wait Forever
During a Wednesday night press-conference after his meeting with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said, “We support a coalition cabinet, but will not wait forever.” He also spoke about last night’s violence and demanded increased checkpoints between Shiyyah and Ain al-Remmaneh.
“Forming a coalition government means that all parties must make concessions and not stick to their demands,” he added.
Geagea also said that the victors of the June parliamentary elections “must be granted some sort of upper hand, otherwise we will be inventing new principles in democracy.”
He also gave his prognosis of the cabinet formation process, saying, “When four months have passed and a cabinet has not been finalized yet, then we can’t be optimistic.”
“The new government is being formed in Lebanon. Whatever happens in Damascus has nothing to do with the Lebanese domestic situation, however it will have positive influence in the future,” Geagea said.
He also spoke about the Ain al-Remmaneh violence and said it “has no political background. Details are now known, perpetrators are identified and the security forces have arrested four suspects until now.”
