Feltman Welcomes Saudi-Syrian Summit Concern on Lebanese Cabinet Formation
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman has expressed Saturday his country”s welcoming of Saudi-Syrian summit”s concern about forming the anticipated Lebanese cabinet.
Feltman said in an interview aired by the U.S.-sponsored Al Hurra TV network that if the Saudi-Syrian summit”s concern about the Lebanese is on forming their government, then Washington welcomes that.
"We hope that Lebanese leaders consider forming the government as soon as possible in conjunction with the Lebanese Constitution and June 7 elections results." added Feltman.
Feltman also stressed his country”s full commitment to Lebanon”s sovereignty and independence as well as forming a cabinet according to the Lebanese Constitution.
"Only the Lebanese need to take decisions regarding their country," stressed Feltman. He also said that Deputy Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Moqdad who held talks last week in Washington agreed on the same stance where Washington discussed the Lebanese issues only to insist that Lebanon belongs to the Lebanese.
