Suleiman: For Government Formation According to Democratic Framework

President Michel Suleiman said Monday from Spain that Lebanon was seeking to form a national unity government taking into consideration what national accordance requires of effort and time.

Suleiman reiterated Lebanon”s and the international community”s commitment for the implementation of Resolution 1701 in conjunction with the UNIFIL”s rules of engagement.

The Lebanese President hailed the mutual cooperation and ties between Lebanon and Spain best expressed through Spain”s participation in the peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon.

Suleiman pointed out that Spain”s heading of the European Union on the beginning of next year is an event coinciding with Lebanon being elected as a non-permanent member in U.N. Security Council for a 2 years term, the thing that represents a better chance for broader communication and cooperation.

President Suleiman started his second day in Spain by meeting the Spanish King Juan Carlos I. He then headed towards the Senates and Parliament Councils where he met both their presidents.

President Suleiman said earlier that Lebanon”s election as non-permanent member in the Security Council is "very important."
"It not only concerns Lebanon but all Arab countries since Lebanon will defend Arabs during its two-year term," Suleiman explained.

Lebanon will be an "influential voice of Arab countries in the service of the Arab rights at the highest international forum," he stressed.

Suleiman also emphasized the need for "permanent coordination" between all Arab states on all issues in order to find a comprehensive, lasing solution to the Arab cause, namely, the central question – the Palestinian cause and their right to declare a state."

He also stressed the need for "integration" between among those countries in the protection of the Arab citizen.

Suleiman arrived in Madrid Sunday afternoon on a three-day official visit at the invitation of both Spanish King Juan Carlos I and the Spanish government.
