Jumblat Discusses Cabinet Formation Efforts with Suleiman
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, accompanied by his son Taymour, visited President Michel Suleiman at the Baabda Palace.
Jumblat discussed the current political situations with the President as well as the contacts conducted by Jumblat with a number of political parties to trespass obstacles regarding the formation of the anticipated government.
Previously, Jumblat warned Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun against getting trapped in a "bidding war" over Christian representation.
Jumblat, in remarks published Thursday by the daily As-Safir, also cautioned that "there are internal and external forces that do not want the historic meeting between King Abdullah and President Bashar al-Assad to be productive. From here, Aoun should see the picture as a whole without indulging into a lot of details. "
Regarding reconciliation between him and the Syrian Social National Party, Jumblat pointed to the "history of struggle that brings us together."
"The common denominator between us is much greater than what separated us over the past years," Jumblat added.
