IC Ras Beirut Middle School Closes Down over Swine Flu
The International College has decided to shut down the Ras Beirut Middle School one week after 32 of its students were reported to have been infected with swine flu.
"To date we have had 32 cases of this influenza in the Ras Beirut Middle School, 13 of whom have already recovered and returned to school," the IC said on its website.
It said 19 students in the Ras Beirut Middle School have been confirmed with H1N1.
"In the best interest of their health, we are planning to close the Ras Beirut Middle School beginning Tuesday, October 27 through Sunday, November 1," IC announced.
The school said it was "closely" monitoring the H1N1 impact on IC students and said it was following the advice of local medical authorities and the guidelines from the Center for Disease Control.
"Overall we have had very few or no cases of H1N1 in the Ras Beirut preschool, elementary school, secondary school and Ain Aar," IC confirmed, adding that the spread of the swine flu virus in the Ras Beirut Middle School, however, necessitated taking "some precautionary measures."
