Important Domestic Matters Necessitate Cabinet to be formed
Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Tuesday that the Lebanese Forces do not insist on being granted the Justice Ministry, even though he did state it should remain within the majority’s share, while voicing hope that the cabinet would soon be formed.
Najjar said that “there are two basic issues hindering the cabinet formation, namely a regional one which is Syria, and a domestic one that is comprised of Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh, Tawhid Movement leader Wiam Wahhab, and Hezbollah’s overall stance.”
According to Najjar, “Following the proposition of the Higher Judicial Council, we proposed to appoint substitute judges to ensure the continuous and proper functioning of the Supreme Court.” He added that the cabinet needs to be formed to handle important domestic matters that require intervention of the Higher Judicial Council.
Najjar touched on the issue of the special Tribunal for Lebanon, saying that Lebanon is engaged in the Memorandum of Understanding with the UN concerning the STL and that the prosecutor general’s demands should come through the Attorney General’s office, which makes sure demands meet Lebanese law.
