Joyce Tabet assumes post as STL deputy prosecutor
Lebanese Judge Joyce Tabet assumed her functions Sunday as deputy prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) investigating the 2005 killing of former Premier Rafik Hariri.
Judge Tabet will be based in the STL’s Beirut field office and will assist Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare in discharging his mandate, including in ensuring liaison and coordination between the Office of the Prosecutor and the relevant Lebanese authorities.
“I am fully confident in Mrs. Tabet’s high caliber professionalism and independence,” said Bellemare in a statement released by his office. “I am equally confident she will be of valuable assistance to me in discharging my mandate and an asset to the Tribunal as a whole given her impressive career and great wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of justice.
I commend her for having accepted this assignment in the service of her country.”
