Election of Parliamentary Committees Postponed Again
Speaker Nabih Berri postponed for the third time in a row a parliamentary session for the election of committees due to lack of quorum.
The session is now set for next Thursday.
Only four majority MPs – Robert Ghanem, Akram Shehayeb, Hadi Hbeish and Elie Aoun – went to parliament. While several opposition lawmakers from the Development and Liberation, Loyalty to the Resistance, and Change and Reform blocs registered their presence.
Hbeish told Future News: "We have given the opposition a big share of committee heads." However, "the opposition is asked for facilitating formation of the national unity cabinet."
"The majority is capable of heading to parliament to elect committee presidents alone but there has been an agreement among different parties," he added.
As for Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwar al-Sahili, he said: "The majority should come next Thursday to parliament if it were still the majority, and the committees would be elected."
"There is no link between the election of parliamentary committees and the cabinet formation," he stressed.
