Berri Says Cabinet Slogan Should be “Make Up for What Was Lost”
In his first statement following weeks of "fasting on speech," Speaker Nabih Berri said that the new cabinet”s slogan should be "make up for what was lost."
"We and Lebanon missed a lot of big opportunities. But they could be compensated on condition we stick to national unity and real consolidation," Berri told An Nahar daily in remarks published Wednesday.
"Let us make the slogan of this government: Make up for what was lost not just in the past five months but also all those years," Berri said.
Berri had kept silent and never made public statements during the cabinet crisis and had vowed to "break his fast" after the government formation.
An Nahar said the speaker told Premier Saad Hariri at Baabda palace during the photo taking session on Tuesday that he would stand next to him in an effort to reach a "perfect government."
"Parliament and cabinet have missions to accomplish. That”s why they should cooperate to compensate for what was lost," Berri told An Nahar.
