Policy Statement Committee Debating Hizbullah Arms on 8th Session
The committee tasked with drafting the ministerial Policy Statement started on Tuesday afternoon its eighth session to finalize the debate over the political aspect of the statement, particularly over the controversial issue of Hizbullah arms.
Hizbullah”s Administrational Development Minister Mohammed Fneish said prior to his entry to the session that "the pending issue is not the resistance arms, but rather the resistance and its role in combating (Israel)."
On his part, Energy Minister Jebran Bassil stressed that "things are settled."
State Minister Jean Ogassapian said that "Resolution 1559 will not be mentioned in the ministerial statement that will only mention Resolution 1701."
The political aspect is to be settled on Tuesday, and the work of ministries on Wednesday, according to State Minister Wael Abu Faour.
Abu Faour added: "The article related to the resistance will be adopted according to the old formula and let those who want to express reservations do so."
According to An-Nahar daily, the long-awaited Cabinet policy statement is likely to be announced before Adha holiday which begins on Friday.
It said a ninth session is to be held on Thursday to address the priorities of each of the ministries.
"If everything goes smoothly, it would become possible to hold a Cabinet meeting on Thursday at Baabda Palace to approve the statement in its final form." An-Nahar wrote.
