Aridi slams inaction on Beirut bridge rebuild
Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi is holding the Beirut Municipality and the Council of Development and Reconstruction [CDR] accountable for the threat posed by the Karantina Bridge to public safety, following the appearance of severe cracks in the structure.
Fractures in the Karantina Bridge, which links Beirut to the north of the country, became more pronounced following an accident on Thursday night involving a truck carrying a heavy load. “A decree was passed by the Cabinet a year ago demanding from the CDR to address the issue, to be funded by the municipality of Beirut, but no concrete steps have been achieved yet in that regard,” Aridi said.
