Syrian Judicial System A Scam
The Syrian extradition notices have “no political or judicial meaning,” Democratic Gathering bloc MP Marwan Hamadeh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Sunday.
Hamadeh was referring to the extradition notices issued to Lebanese public figures by the Syrian judiciary for perjury charges against former General Security Director Jamil As-Sayyed.
The MP then criticized the Syrian judicial system, calling it a scam.
Hamadeh said Lebanon is now going through a transitional phase and it must avoid internal conflict.
He said that President Michel Sleiman is a “decent man” who the Lebanese must defend and that Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir is “the voice of the Lebanese conscience.”
All the parties are represented in the cabinet and they should work to ban Palestinians harboring arms outside their refugee camps, Hamdeh said.
“What I fear for is Lebanon as a whole, not the failure or success of its cabinet. I fear that Israel could make a regional or international deal at the expense of Lebanon, and I fear for the Lebanese people’s attempts to increase divisions among themselves through the use of arms.”
