Youth from Across Political Spectrum Agree on Education Reform, Decentralization
Leaders of youth and student organizations from across the Lebanese political spectrum have issued a common declaration listing points of agreement on education reform and decentralization.
The declaration was adopted following a conference in London on December 10-12. The event was hosted by International Alert, which is a London-based charity and international non-governmental organization working to prevent and end violent conflict across the globe.
The conferees agreed on the need to improve education at public schools and stressed the importance of creating job opportunities for youth.
The declaration also called for the quick implementation of administrative decentralization and "encouraging investments and development and economic projects that provide job opportunities and limit migration and emigration."
The following political parties were represented at the event: Democratic Renewal Movement, Amal Movement, Democratic Left Movement, Free Patriotic Movement, Future Movement, Green Party of Lebanon, Hizbullah, Jamaa Islamiya, Phalange Party, Lebanese Communist Party, Lebanese Democratic Party, Lebanese Forces, Marada Movement, National Liberal Party, Progressive Socialist Party, Syrian Social National Party and Tashnag Party.
