Cabinet Holds 1st Ordinary Session after Vote of Confidence

The cabinet on Monday held its first ordinary session after winning the parliament”s vote of confidence on December 10.

It convened at 5:15p.m. at the Baabda Palace under President Michel Suleiman and the attendance of Prime Minister Saad Hariri and all the ministers.

The cabinet discussed an agenda of 93 regular clauses in addition to some urgent clauses that require resolutions.

President Suleiman started the session by congratulating the Lebanese people on the occasion of Christmas and New Year holidays and then informed the cabinet about the results of his official visit to Washington and the meetings with high U.S. officials topped by President Barrack Obama. He also informed the ministers about the result of his meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad.

On his part, PM Hariri extended congratulations for the Lebanese on the occasion of holidays, and informed the cabinet about the results of his participation in Copenhagen”s climate change summit heading the delegation of Lebanon.

Hariri also informed the cabinet about the results of his visit to Damascus and his meeting with Assad.

The cabinet discussed reports about the sunken ship Danny F II off Tripoli”s coast and the recent incident of shooting at a Syrian bus in Akkar which led to the death of a Syrian citizen.

After the session, Information Minister Tarek Mitri quoted President Suleiman as saying that the shooting at the Syrian bus was an act against Lebanon and its stability.

He also quoted PM Hariri as saying that the shooting incident was directed against Lebanon and against the achievements of his visit to Damascus.

The session of the cabinet was preceded by a closed meeting between Suleiman and Hariri.
